What THE II - my 2nd job in sydney
Hi Lina,
Please forward your bank details for your payment. As the number of brochures distributed was too low (average is 100 to 200 per hour), we can only accept half your time for the promotion.
Kind regards,
xxxx
let me tell u the PMH:
i got this job from intro of the lady boss of the restaurant i frequent. saying that this customer of her is lookin for a flyer gal. so i happily met the person & took the job.
the product that i 'm giving the flyer is apparently this anti-pimple/acne/blemish product (consist of face wash, toner, moisturiser, mask and serum) it's always like that huh- they always wanna get every single chance to suck ur money. and it's ingredients are from chinese herbs/medicine. therefore it claims to be different from the benzol peroxide you have seen in the market and more effective too. so my task is stand around the pharmacy or right outside the pharmacy giving out flyer. they promised it's a $13/hr job. (supposedly better than waitressing at chinese restaurant -$10). This kinda reminds me of the sales gal back in msia who always got hold of me when i pass by them becuz of my skin problem. >__<
wat's in my mind at 1st thought: it's kinda ironic for me to promote for the pdt. (Look at my complexion !!! - i have so much blemishes). i read thru the promotion guide. it juz doesn't make sense to me.....how does antifungal properties gotta do with acne. As u can see, i'm obviously not convinced.. but that's wat a sales person shld counter right ( since when i have become a sales person?!!!!)
but i still bravely embrace the 1st day while rushing from a 1.5 hr train ride & 45 min of bus ride in the rain from Liverpool Hospital all the way to the shopping centre 15min away from my house. I was greeted by lost pharmacy staff. i tot there will be uniform or at least brand T shirt. but there is nothing. (luckily i'm in my formal wear) i got this stack of around 80 pamphlets fr the drawer underneath the display rack. i started distributing outside the pharmacy.
as you know it's a weekday (thursday) and it's a rainy day. obviously not much people will come out to shop. plus, i have a limited area to cover (juz outside the pharmacy and how many actually pass by infront of me?!!!) and the product is only applicable to a very niche population (most probably young pple with acne problem). i being a usual street wise me, i'm selective in the people that i gave the brochures so that the brochures will not end up in the aluminium rubbish bin 5 metres in front of me. so i distriubuted almost half of wat i had. This is when i reallise that angmo's complexion are all so nice and rosy.(mayb it's cosmetics, but i'm dead sure that there are so few bumps on their face) i reckon the response will be better if it's a antiwrinkle collagen booster something - pple will eventually get wrinkles right)
so after standing for 3 hours i went home. i received a call from my boss asking me how's the response, i told him the truth. he ask me to tel him how many flyers i have given out. so i agak agak give him a figure 30-40 (cuz i 'm not aware that he will actually ask me that). he told me that i shld have given out more. i 'm confused...." m i supposed to be juz a flyer gal or a promoter?)
On saturday, trying to improve my performance.....and obviously there are more crowd. i finish the remaining flyers b4 3 hours. (i have to admit that i gave to some who seems to have pimples from far but in actual fact no, it's juz their freckles! )
i tot my job is done and my pay will come (it rhymes right?!) i receive this call fr my boss tellin me that his boss is not happy with the amt of flyers i have given out in 6 hours time (as you can see fr the text above highlighted in red. they keep comparin me to those pple stationed in the city and most probably juz blindly give the flyers out... and thus wanna cut my pay.
Can you imagine what's that?!!! 13 divide by half is 6.5 ( i tot minimum pay in australia is 10 bucks/hr). it's even less than a minor's pay. it's so unfair to me cuz it's never in the terms that it's a commision based job or wat. the job is juz i fulfill my hours and i'll get my pay. and it's not like i'm not doin my job, it's juz that the response is not good. and even if you are not satisfied with my working performance, you could have given me my full pay and ask me to get lost, not cutting my pay out of nowhere.
so i make a call to the big boss and reason with him
tried to talk to him in english. he will reply me with one whole chunk of long winded stuff that i have been told numerous times b4 by boss. line got cut off. call him again. try to converse with him in mandarin...OMG !!! 100X better than previous conversation.
rest assure that at least at this moment, everything is resolved. the big boss promised to give me my full pay on monday(13X6 = 78). and hopefully they wldn't see this entry b4 my pay day ;P
though in the phone with the big boss and boss, i told them that i look forward in working with them again (formality)....but i seriously doubt so after this incident. another evidence for stereotype: Only chinese will do this kind of thing , worse of all..... to their chinese tong2 bao1. ( both of them r chinese..... boss is from china, big boss don't know fr where)
What to do?!!! ciao
Juz a random note: took RSA (responsible service of alcohol course ) which cost me $70 in the city. it's compulsory in aus if the place you work in serve alcohol (eg, restaurant, pub, bar, club). i'm hoping that takin this course will widen my job options, hoping to get a waitressing job. the course is actually quite interesting. in conclusion we learn how to identify and deal with intoxicated customer, refusing to serve them.etc

WHAT THE?!!!
15-year-old performs surgery in India
Outrage over boy's attempt to gain spot in Guinness Book of World Records
Associated PressNEW DELHI - The 15-year-old son of two doctors performed a filmed Caesarean section birth under his parents’ watch in southern India in an apparent bid to gain a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest surgeon.
Instead, the boy’s father could be stripped of his licenses and may face criminal charges, officials said Thursday.
Dr. K. Murugesan showed a recording of his son performing a Caesarean section to an Indian Medical Association chapter in the southern state of Tamil Nadu last month, said Dr. Venkatesh Prasad, secretary of the association. The video showed Murugesan anesthetizing the patient.
“We were shocked to see the recording,” Prasad told The Associated Press, adding that the IMA told Murugesan that his act was an ethical and legal violation.Murugesan owns and runs a maternity hospital in the city of Manaparai, Prasad said in a telephone interview from Manaparai. The family could not be immediately reached for comment.
Murugesan, who could possibly be prevented from practicing and face criminal charges for allowing his son to perform the operation, expressed no regret and accused the Manaparai medical association of being “jealous” of his son’s achievements, Prasad added.
“He said this was not the first surgery performed by his son and that he had been training him for the last three years,” said Prasad.
Murugesan told the medical association that he wanted to see his son’s name in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Prasad said that his team had reported the surgery to the state’s top medical association in state capital, Chennai.
State health secretary V.K. Subburaj told reporters Thursday that the government would investigate.
“We’ll get the report and then we’ll see whether there are any violations ... prima facie it looks like there is a big violation,” he said.
“We will definitely take action against the concerned medical officers.”
my comment:
1st thing that came to my mind when i read the title is like mayb this boy finish med sch at age 8 or something and is qualified to be surgeon by age 15... but oh my i was so wrong.....
actually when u come to think of it, it's totally possible. somemore he's under supervision by his parents. Surgery is not that big deal.... juz cuttin up, doin some maneuver and stitching up ( i make it sounds so simple huh :P) yes,u need expertise knowledge. but the action of doin the surgery is not that tough.... for eg. the boy is like a robot hand, and the parents are the brain behind the robot hand....u see wat i mean. the parents ask him to go right, he then go right.vice versa
but still, i very much pity the patient. i will be so freaking angry if i 'm the patient. and the parents are so blatant to allow their son to do this juz bcuz they want him to be in Guinness record. That makes me wonder are people with this kind of mentality fitted to be doctors in the first place....
do surgery to break record. how fast u can do surgery, how many surgery have u done blah blah blah.....and they transfer that viscious cycle to their son/daughter. -_-

Australia and US launch their biggest joint military exercises
Australia and the United States launched their biggest joint war games Monday, with 27,500 troops backed by a US aircraft carrier engaging in exercises aimed at consolidating the allies' military dominance in the Asia Pacific region.
The biennial Talisman Sabre exercise pits 20,000 US troops and 7,500 Australian forces against two fictional enemies - the Kamarians and Musorians - in a variety of land and sea-based scenarios designed to test their skills in combat, peacekeeping and humanitarian relief efforts.
The exercise, which runs until July 2, will also include 10 US ships, 20 Australian ships and 125 aircraft operating off the coast of Rockhampton in northeastern Queensland state.
"The United States and Australia have a long-standing relationship ... we share the same values and interests. Foremost among those interests is the stability and security of the Asia-Pacific region," US Vice Admiral Doug Crowder told reporters on board the USS Blue Ridge in Sydney."Therefore it is very important that our militaries train together to carry out the types of missions our governments may call upon us to execute to ensure regional security and stability."
The exercise comes as the United States and Japan step up efforts to build a joint missile defense system in Asia, partly as a bulwark against regional threats such as a nuclear-armed North Korea.
Australia, a steadfast US ally that maintains around 2,000 troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, is studying whether to participate in the defense shield, Defense Minister Brendan Nelson announced this month.
Canberra is expanding its military personnel to 30,500 troops from 27,500, and ramping up other defense capabilities as part of an overhaul to take greater responsibility for Asian security.
Japan plans to send observers to the Talisman Sabre operation, Crowder said, but would not expand on what role they might play in the exercise. Australia and Japan signed a security agreement in March that will enable Japanese forces to train alongside Australians for disaster relief and peacekeeping missions, and boost cooperation between the two countries in counterterrorism measures and intelligence sharing.
Meanwhile, environmentalists have voiced concern about the possible dangers of submarine-hunting sonar equipment to whales in the region. The International Whaling Commission issued a report this month saying a mid-frequency sonar sometimes used by US and Australian ships can cause hearing loss and tissue damage in whales and can alter their diving habits.
"A huge part of the planning for this exercise has been the environmental concerns. We have many procedures in place," Crowder said. He would not elaborate on the procedures, saying only that the operation "will be conducted in compliance with all the Australian governmental requirements."
About 100 people gathered Monday outside an army barracks in the northeastern city of Rockhampton to protest the exercises. They laid a wreath and hundreds of shoes at the gate of the barracks to symbolize military and civilian casualties from the Iraq war.
"We mourn all loss of life and we feel the shoes are a very powerful symbol," Robin Taubenfeld, of the environmental group Friends of the Earth said

AUSTRALIAN and US soldiers using remote-controlled bulldozers and other sophisticated equipment have carved a 1.3-kilometre airstrip out of the Northern Territory outback in an effort worthy of the Guinness Book of Records.
More than 200 personnel from the two countries — representing six military branches — will complete the strip in scrubland 600 kilometres south-west of Darwin in less than 25 days.
One of the Australian Defence Force's largest cargo planes, the 120-tonne C-17, is scheduled to land on the strip at a former cattle station, now called the Bradshaw Training Facility, on June 29.
"I've never worked on anything as spectacular as this and I have been an engineer in the US Army for 20 years," said Major Pat Stogner, deputy commander of the project. "Back home a job of this size would be contracted out, and I doubt it could be built with such speed."
The strip, made of three layers of fine soil, is being built to provide a forward base as part of a joint US-Australian exercise in northern Queensland and the Northern Territory involving 20,000 US troops, 100 aircraft and a nuclear-powered submarine.
Exercise Talisman Sabre is held every two years, but new facilities built at Bradshaw catering for hundreds of troops are expected to be used regularly by US forces under a US-Australian agreement.
The agreement allows for hundreds of US soldiers, sailors and marines to undergo regular training at bases in northern Australia.
About 100 US military personnel and 110 Australian soldiers arrived at Bradshaw on June 1 in one of the first operations involving so many branches of the two countries' forces.
Stuart Yeaman, the Australian Lieutenant-Colonel in charge of the Joint Rapid Airfield Construction project, said at the weekend that only a highly organised military operation could build a strip capable of withstanding a C-17 in such a short time.
"We have met the challenge," he said as heavy rollers trundled down the strip to pack the soil.
Robert Dees, a 25-year-old US marine who returned from Iraq late last year, said he had been amazed by the size of the project in such an isolated place.
"And there's big crocodiles in the river down the road — awesome," he said.
The US contingent to Bradshaw includes a dozen specialists, among them scientists, who have been testing new ways to build airstrips. These include using remote-controlled bulldozers, which can be operated by a soldier from a distance of up to 300 metres.
The Australian Defence Force took seven years to negotiate a land-use agreement with the indigenous owners of the 8700-square-kilometre Bradshaw station, which guarantees soldiers will protect sacred sites and a conservation area.
The Australian Defence Force will maintain the airstrip when the exercise is over.

the 1st time i heard her sing was her uplugged.... that's the rawest, most unpolished voice i have ever heard....however, in the album, it did sound a bit different....smoother, more pleasing to ears. However i still prefer the live version.........the impact is juz different.......pitch may not be totally perfect.....but the feeling and power is there.

2nd June Saturday
went to the Unibuds potluck (unsw buddhist society) with yonxian at the SQUARE house( the religious building in sch). bot some fruits fr coles
oh my, fruits here are so ex. :(
one small papaya + one small watermelon + one small honeydew = $15.
i bet that in msia wldn't cost more than RM 10.
enjoyed myself in the potluck...they r a bunch of nice pple....
they seem to be having fun....but u know lah....if i were to focus on study, i wldn't want other obligations.......... or else i'll flung my studies AGAIN!!!
met this IMU senior fr 1998 batch. who was fr uni of belfast in UK. as you all shld know about the change in working policy in UK. lotsa pple can't work there anymore. according to him, quite a number of IMU pple r in Australia now....so for u guys in UK, if the policy still remain unchanged by the time u graduate....it's recommended that you don't do internship in UK but in wherever country you are planning to go.... cuz the internship you have done in UK may not b recognised by the country you are goin.. and it's always good to build a good foundation of your social circle earlier in your career. unless you are those pple who don't really care bout job prospect at the same time has lotsa money and time at hand....then you can go ahead for UK internship for exposure/experience.
3 rd June Sunday
walked to Coogee beach for BBQ with the Neutralise Gang ....hehe their BBQ pit is really hi- tech.... it's like a Aluminium platform with free heat supply.
but oh my..... the way we cook stuff is really "cincai", you wldn't wanna try tat at home. apparently we have some clashes of ideas of how we should cook stuff....but luckily we still managed to produce an edible meal.
played frisbee.....i suck.....it has been a long time since i last played....
took some pretty adventurous picture at the shore line ( risk of getting wet fr the approaching wave any time)
have been contemplating whether i should join a sports club to get back my fitness like i was in college last time. whenever i went swimming and pass by the village green every weekend, i see pple playing rugby there ( they have games btw schs every weekend).... oh my... if not for the sun....i wld much love to join the clubs..hehehehe mayb i should join touch or ultimate frisbee.... (if not for the SUN)
the rest of the week it's holsworthy again...but this time round, i managed to utilise the Gym!!! feelin' good. it's been along time since i last ran on a treadmill after IMU's treadmill broke down! >_<
10 June 2007 Sunday
last week, went to hurtsville to meet mom's colleague....ffk the senior dimsum gathering at the same time. didn't manage to meet the person i'm supposed to see as i somehow lost contact with her (couldn't get thru her phone)...didn't managed to find her place as well....as logically speaking accordin to the address.... her place is actually Westfield Shopping Centre. -_- but i had a good shopping trip around there....lotsa cheap and good chinese food. would luv to stay there if convenient. :)
this is our last week in holsworthy, kinda sad as we r gettin to know the pple there better, we have to leave soon. didn't go to gym today instead hang around in the ward to chat with pple. but i'am looking forward to our trip to Rockthampton in Queensland next week (remember the army exercise i mentioned before) and best of all we are taking plane there (FOC) ... hope that i can stand the COLD..... it's gonna be a great experience....but i juz hate sleeping in the cold....or rather being kept awake the whole night by COLD....

Richmond RAAF Air base
only yesterday, that we were informed that we are goin to Richmond RAAF tday. oh my.... i was caught totally off guarded. it's so far away.....
if holsworthy is the south western part of sydney, richmond is the north western of sydney. (i stay in the east). only richmond is twice the distance away fr the east........ richmond is somewhere near blue mt d.....oh my :(
1. woke up at 445am
2. left home around 620. it's still so dark outside.... wldnt dare to go out any earlier
3. reach train station at around 650.
realise that there is still some time till the next train. so went out the gate again to clear my bladder in preparation for the unknown journey.
4. get the western line train at 715. ($6.80 single trip)
5. reach east richmond stn at 845 (dozing on and off btw stns)
6. ask stn person about direction....he ask me to go back 1 or 2 station
which is clarendon & windsor ( air base is juz directly opposite them)
but i didn't as i trust my direction sense. place mayb near but the entrance is not there
takkan you want me crawl over the fence and walk onto the track with air planes around??!!!!
7. cldn't find the bus as stated in online directions. number 680 on windsor street.
8. ask a lady. lady said have to go to richmond stn instead for bus and taxis
9. walk to richmond stn - 10 min
10. ask the ladies at bus stop - waited 5 min for bus
11. felt insecure
12. went to train stn to ask the person. he said taxis is the only way to get there
13. wait for taxis. no taxi come. ask the lady b4 me how much will it be to get the cab. she said 15 bucks which scare a hell outta me...
14. at the mean time...i saw 680 coming.... hop on the bus....
17. the bus pass by windsor st but didn't stop. (therefore i make a right choice of walking to richmond stn). i'm in the right direction is juz that it's a bit twisted here & there.
18. bus uncle tot i'm goin to airbase... overshot the hospital for around 100m before i ask him to stop. actually it's my fault- i didn't know air base is not equal to airbase hospital.
19. reach destination at 940am (40 min late)
now, i'm thankful that i'm based at holsworthy....not richmond :P
AREP - alcohol reduction education program is the exact place i went.
first program of the day: discussion among the group members of army undergoin rehab. (1 gp will undergo a 4 wks program)
we were behind this one way glass to look at them. and we have earphone too to hear wat they said.... most of the time i can't catch them as their speech is often colloquial.
after that. lunch time.
after that they have 2 tutorials on" anger management" and "boundaries"
after that we observed a one to one counselling session.
this 4 wk they will undergo programs like this and they are stayin as inpatient in hospital.
PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE

Passive-aggressive behavior refers to passive, sometimes obstructionist resistance to following authoritative instructions in interpersonal or occupational situations. It can manifest itself as resentment, stubbornness, procrastination, sullenness, or repeated failure to accomplish requested tasks for which one is assumed, often explicitly, to be responsible. It is a defensive posture and, more often than not, only partly conscious. For example, people who are passive-aggressive might take so long to get ready for a party they do not wish to attend, that the party is nearly over by the time they arrive.
There are certain behaviors that help identify passive-aggressive behavior. [3]
- Ambiguity
- Avoiding responsibility by claiming forgetfulness
- Blaming others
- Chronic lateness and forgetfulness
- Complaining
- Does not express hostility or anger openly
- Fear of authority
- Fear of competition
- Fear of dependency
- Fear of intimacy
- Fosters chaos
- Intentional inefficiency
- Making excuses and lying
- Obstructionism
- Procrastination
- Resentment
- Resists suggestions from others
- Sarcasm
- Sullenness
CONCLUSION: I am a PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE PERSON!!! & I Cope by COMPLIANCE. i do have those behaviors some point in my life.... so does that mean that i have behavioral problem?

SO........... have you planned?
I'am sure you guys as medical students....at some point in your life....you will encounter this question? (or even many times)
"So wat do u plan to do after you graduate? ( in the sense of do u plan to be a GP or specialise? if specialise, in wat area is it)"
i am not sure how many of you can really answer firmly on this question.
as clearly we have already passed the times when we were asked wat do we wanna be when we grow up? maybe i shall go all the way back to the beginning.
we were asked to fill in this yearly progress report by our primary school. we are given 3 choices
which mayb influenced by our parents, the tv shows/cartoons or some circumstances.etc somewhere along the way
we may put soldier, pilot, teacher, clerk, lawyer, doctor, accountant, engineer, businessman.etc
how many will actually put cleaner, plumber, maid.etc
how many will end up becoming wat they actually wrote in their primary school report card....
as for doctors to be when we were young:
some said naively, innocently, full of hope: i wanna be a DOCTOR!
some said firmly, mature beyond their age: i want to be a Doctor!
some may say: i wanna be a stewardess/pilot.....
some may not give a definitive answer
as we grew up..... studying hard for every gateway to higher education
some with an aim to do be a doctor
some with an aim to be a engineer
some specify wat kind of area they wanna be in , be it science or arts or business
some w/o an aim
some goes with the flow
how many of you has actually stick to wat you have originally plan or follow since you were young
and now when we are asked what do we wanna specialise in
some said determinedly (or mayb with a tinge of arrogance that exudes from their confidence):
i wanna be a neurosurgeon/cardiothoracic surgeon.etc
some said firmly: i wanna be a surgeon but i have yet to find out which specialty i wanna be a surgeon. ( good enuf to impress some when the word surgeon is mentioned- listerner's eye brows raised, sparkle in eyes)
some said humblely: i wanna be a GP
some said practically: i wanna be a endocrinologist, dermatologist, radiologist.etc
some said sheepishly: i don't know.
when question on why do u wanna be a doctor:
some said clichely: for the sake of human kind. i wanna help those in need.... or i have a grandma who were sick.. and now i wish to be a doc....
some said: i juz luv kids so much....i wanna be a pediatrician(but do u know kids in peds r not the lively bunch you always see.... seeing kids dying mayb more depressing than a adult)
some said: i don't know. i guess it's juz another job
some may not say but think: i think it's a prestigious job which can earn stable and relatively high income compared to 98% of the other population. it's a customer service line with your customer respecting u but not complaining about you (if you think so)
actually nothing is to be ashame of.... no matter how you think of yourself and wat you think of people telling you..... who in the world you will find a business man 100% saying that i wanna make the business world better....serve my customer better without earning something in return to fulfill my desire... same thing applies to doctor. there must be things other than ur pure politically correct aspiration. everything is juz a way of life. it all depends on how individual look at it/stereotype it/picture it.

some may decided to switch to business, teaching, housewife, wateva you can think of....all due to circumstances..........
AS FOR ME
when i was in primary sch:
i used to put clerk first time on my report card, after which i change to lawyer or something on the following year...i kept changing....never really think of the real meaning of it.
i was never certain that i wanna be a doctor before i actually enter IMU
med school is not wat everyone can get, i was not confident that i'll get in as well (unlike the hi flyers)
but i do narrow down my area by continuing in science stream..... (i'm the sort of go with the flow person)
when people saying medicine is hard...oh gosh i would think maths/accounts/business is as hard as a rock for me.
it all depends on wat your interest/strong point is in. BEAR IN MIND that no job is easY. STOP THINKING THAT BEING A DOCTOR IS HARD....YOU HAVE ALREADY SUCCUMBED MENTALLY.....physically obviously you wldn't last long..... stop thinking that those studying medicine is more hardworking than you as well.....
now whenever people ask wat i wanna specialise in
i will not give a definite answer blindly for now.
i used to naively want to be a plastic surgeon (which i don't like mentioning it now for reason i wldn't wanna remember)
i'm not saying i will not be one day but it's juz that those thoughts seem naive to me.
i reallise that sometimes things are subject to change due to circumstances
i do admire those people who have long time firm aspiration & direction of wat they wanna become or specialise in. (be it they really want it or having a ride of it or enjoy the moment of it)
but i reallise at the same time, i have put myself down by having that sense of inferiority & dilemma & insecurity which i reallise i'm doin myself no justice at all.
till one fateful day....i have my luck of my this phase of life by talking to this one random person- dr C. i have the courage to raise this question up to him bcuz he's juz this random person whom i'm not really affiliated to. he gave me simple but useful enlightenment. i felt like a feather now like i used to be....
take for eg.
orthopedic surgery 10 yrs ago is not the same as now. so wat you were actually interested in....you may not be interested now if you used to like orthopedics (same for the other way round) immunology was a boring subject till HIV swept the world one day....and no one expected it.
there's no harm exploring a little something different eg during your electives which may not b what you will be doing in the future. as most often you wldn't get to experience it again if you know that's not the thing you want.
i need to write this down before i forget.... i'm a forgetful person.... but i'll find ways to remember them if i want. (i'm demented :P) that's why this blog is here. that's good in a way....juz like the movie "with momento" ....i choose wat to remember.....and not to remember (often the bad & traumatic experiences). i may know something bad happened years ago....but i juz seem not to remember wat actually happened....

i am happy of where i am now. Doc is the job for me...as you know i don't like maths and alike. i don't like lab work(sad to say so....i guess some pt in my life i'll still have to do some lab work) ....
i don't exactly like dealing with pple but i do enjoy parts of it. i don't like anaesthetic job as i m a sleepy person (DANGEROUS!) i am sure i m gonna enjoy the satisfaction i got out of wherever i'm heading to.
i have learnt my lesson.......i hope you too. ciaoz :D

First Day at the Barracks
This is the 1st day of my posting in the Barracks which I have been lamenting about.
Journey as followed:
Walk down the barker hill – 5 min
Wait for bus – 5 min
To Central Stn- 15 min
Wait for train – 5 min
Train journey – 45 min ($8.80 for return ticket)
Walk into the hospital – 30 min or more (damn long….. at once I tot I cldn’t make it)
In total around 2 hours
Therefore I’m trying to skip the last walking part, so hopefully I can hitch a ride fr my batchmate who drives there from his nearby home. I juz need help for the agonizing walking part.
It is a totally new experience. Basically it is a well equip hospital (supply more than demand), maybe 3-4 times bigger than a normal Klinik Kesihatan. It has a physio gym, normal gym, clinics, hydrotherapy pool, approx 20 bed ward, basic patho lab, cafeteria, OT, imaging, and places that I have yet to venture.
Depression is a main problem, mostly from the stress to perform (or mayb social reasons). Can you imagine, their dream is to get deploy to overseas to serve their country. (eg, mid east or Afghanistan) so if u r not fit/sick, u can’t get deploy but u can’t get anywhere either….sad right. I would say that the staff are generally very friendly. So this is the hospital that you see pple in army uniform walking around. Not a busy hospital though. I would expect myself to have more hands on experience over here. Such as today, a army staff volunteer to get his blood drawn by us. Prick by each of us at both hands. But still we fail badly……… (I felt so guilty after that, I rather have myself pricked, but the paramedics said that we can’t do that due to some regulation) luckily the para is a very nice & encouraging guy. HOPEFULLY TOMORROW WILL BE A BETTER DAY ; P possibly, we have the chance to go to to the office in other place to see wat the army does in the normal day. Dr ML ( our course supervisor) said that we may get a chance to go to queensland to experience the Army“Drill” of managing emergencies/crisis like Tsunami exercise. Lotsa army fr diff places will gather there ( eg. US)
Last day at Vinnies
Pictures taken on my last day in st. vinnies. (will be back in half a year time). Nostalgic *sobs*
With our bedside tutor – katrin
Didn’t manage to take a pic with Dr P.S (our bedside tutor as well). Juz wanna say that he looks cute when he smiles as he shows the widen gap right infront of the gum.
Our tutorial group and doc nick b (geriatrician) doesn’t he look like a older version of Dr house….except that Dr Nick is kind and not as eccentric.
